The International Taekwondo Association™ (ITKDA™) is dedicated to promoting traditional, hard-style Moo-Do (무도) Taekwondo. While we do not require you, your school, or affiliated organizations to follow a set standard or style of forms (poomsae), we encourage all Moo-Do (무도) students to start with the foundations of the Kicho / Taikyoku forms before proceeding with their school's or affiliated organization's forms and requirements for advancement in rank.Individuals and schools that affiliate solely with the ITKDA and follow our rules and standards for promotion should use the World Taekwondo (WT) curriculum for rank and promotion, the only exception being the ITKDA's rules and standards for instructors, school headmasters/grandmasters, and organization grandmasters which allows for reduced time to promotion in the next rank and grade, the granting of credit for time in grade, and elections to higher rank and grade in the absence of leadership such as in the retirement or death of a school's headmaster/grandmaster or organization's grandmaster, as well as the granting of honorary rank and grade in recognition of an individual's exemplary public service.Annual membership in the International Taekwondo Association (ITKDA) is offered free of charge and is open to all individual Taekwondo practitioners, schools, and organizations—regardless of nationality or country of origin. As a condition of membership, individuals agree to receive periodic newsletters and official communications from the ITKDA and must maintain a valid email address on record to renew their membership each year. The ITKDA provides Dan Registration and Certification for practitioners seeking advancement in rank in accordance with ITKDA Rules and Standards. We welcome practitioners affiliated with other federations and organizations—including, but not limited to, World Taekwondo (WT), the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), the American Taekwondo Association (ATA), the United States Taekwondo Grandmasters Society (USTGS), and Moo Duk Kwan (MDK)—to register and promote with the ITKDA. Additionally, martial artists from related disciplines, such as Karate-do, may apply for Taekwondo rank through the ITKDA's equivalency recognition program. For Taekwondo practitioners interested in participating in Karate-do competitions or cross-disciplinary training, the ITKDA encourages consideration of black belt equivalency in Kong Soo Do (Korean Karate) through its affiliated partner organization, the International Kong Soo Do Association (IKSDA).
